A 231-meter super high rise was completed in Roppongi, Tokyo, a part of the redevelopment project conducted by a group of land owners including Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. A joint venture of Taisei and Obayashi was responsible for construction, while the design was drawn by Nikken Sekkei.

The redevelopment of the 2.7 ha plot near Tokyo Metro Roppongi 1-chome Station includes the 43-story office building “Roppongi Grand Tower,” a 27-story condominium building and retail shops. The total floor space surpasses 210,000m2. Hybrid anti-quake structure with base isolation and seismic dumpers was applied to the tower. While rubber isolators were installed on the 29th floor, steel and oil dampers give vibration resistance to the lower floors. (2016/10/31)
