The new national stadium has been completed by a group of contractors, Taisei Corp., Azusa Sekkei Co. and Kengo Kuma and Associates after three years of construction which begun in December 2016.

The project owner Japan Sports Council will hold an opening event on December 21. The Emperor’s Cup Japan Soccer Championship final on January 1, 2020 will be the first official event to take place at the venue.

“It was a great responsibility to complete the project as it attracted the attention of people. We are pleased to announce its completion as a member of the contractors. We hope that the stadium, in harmony with the surrounding greenery, would become a beloved place where people in Japan and around the world interact with each other and would contribute to development of the sports and culture in Japan,” said Chairman of Taisei Takashi Yamauchi.

The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games will undertake the temporary overlay work at the stadium in preparation for the Olympic Games starting on July 24, 2020. (2019/12/02)
