LNG terminal and 40 km pipeline to be built in Fukushima

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) will build an LNG terminal and a connecting pipeline for vaporized gas at Soma Port, Fukushima Prefecture, the board meeting decided on November 27. Followed by selection of contractors, the work will start in 2014, which is scheduled for completion in December 2017, start of operation in March 2018.

Given rising public awareness of the environment and energy conservation, demand for natural gas is becoming increasingly stronger in Tohoku region. JAPEX, in response to this market trend, has carried out the feasibility study on development of LNG receiving terminal in Shinchi Town, Fukushima. When completed, the terminal will hold a vaporizing facility, a storage tank with capacity of 230,000 kilo litters in the area of approx. 20 hectares. A new 40 km pipeline will connect the terminal with JAPEX’s Niigata-Sendai Pipeline in Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture. (2013/11/28)
