Japanese construction company Penta-Ocean Construction Co. announced on August 6th that it has been awarded a major contract by the Airport Authority Hong Kong to build a dedicated automated vehicle roadway and station facilities at Hong Kong International Airport. The project spans approximately 3.8 kilometers and includes seawall renovation, ground-level roads, elevated bridges, and station development. The contract is valued at around ¥41.5 billion (approximately USD 290 million), with a construction period of about four years.

The project, officially titled the Airport Tung Chung Link, forms part of a broader transportation infrastructure enhancement plan around Hong Kong International Airport. Its primary objective is to construct a dedicated roadway for automated transport vehicles connecting the airport with Tung Chung, a key transportation hub. The development is expected to improve accessibility and accommodate anticipated growth in passenger traffic at the airport.

Penta-Ocean established its Hong Kong office in 1986 and has since built a strong track record in the region, including the development of university facilities and a cruise terminal. At Hong Kong International Airport, the company was also responsible for ground improvement works for the third runway in 2016. (2025/08/07)
