Six Japanese JVs win all contracts of civil work for Jakarta Metro

Six joint ventures, all of which are sponsored by Japanese construction companies won all the contracts of civil work for Indonesia’s first metro system, Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (MRT Jakarta) North-South Line. The first phase of the line consists of six sections including elevated rails and shield tunneling, which require high standards of construction Japanese companies can offer. This can be a model project of export of infrastructure system the government is promoting.

The project sponsored by PT MRT Jakarta will be funded by ODA from Japan, which will contribute to overcoming traffic conjunctions. The North-South line has 15.7 kilometers in length, connecting down town Jakarta and the suburban area in South. The total contract values at 65.1 billion yen for Construction Package 101-106.

CP101 and 102 are to be done by a joint venture of Tokyu Construction and Wijaya Karya Tbk at about 22.5 billion yen. The section with the total length of 5.9 kilometers includes an overpass, three elevated stations, a maintenance factory, and a rolling stock yard. The work will start in November and complete in June 2018.

The contract of CP103 was won by a joint venture of Obayashi Corp., Shimizu Corp. and PT Jaya Konstruksi at 10 billion yen. A 40-meter wide elevated bridge, four elevated stations, a substation etc. will be constructed in the section of 3.8 kilometers. The work period is from this month to June 2018.

Construction of underground CP104-106 has been undertaken since October 10th. Shimizu Corp., Obayashi Corp., Wijaya Karya Tbk, and PT Jaya Konstruksi are the contractors of CP104 and 105, while Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co. and PT Hutama Karya are in charge of CP106. (2013/10/18)
