Design Work of 2025 Osaka EXPO Pavillion To Begin By March 2021

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, the organizer of the event will begin desgin works of pavillions by the end of March 2021. The master plan for the venue and the exhibition was announced last month. Designers will be comissioned through 2021 and construction is expected to begin in 2023.

The pandemic of COVID-19 is pressing for a change in economic and social structure globally. The association intends to co-create a new social and economic system with the international community, taking into consideration Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN. The event is expected to showcase the way of the carbon-free society and the use of digital technologies.

The Expo site is located in the 155 hectare southern part of the Yumeshima district of Konohana Ward, Osaka City. The event will take place from April 13th to October 13th, 2025. According to the master plan announced on December 25 last year, the 65.7 hectare Pavilion World will have a large ring-shaped roof and "the Forest of Tranquility", and the 47 hectare Water World will be constructed along the water. The flying car station will be built in the Green World. The venue design producer is architect Sou Fujimoto. (2021/01/04)
