Japanese construction giant Kajima opened a test field in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture to demonstrate its autonomous operation system of construction equipment. The company will accelerate development of the system, taking advantage of the new the 2-hectare Seisyo Jikken Field dedicated for experiments of the system.
The system called “A4CSEL” integrates various sensors and technologies such as GPS, gyroscopes and laser scanners to realize fully self-driving machinery. Unlike the conventional remote control operation, the new system enables multiple vehicles to operate autonomously following the instructions by a human through tablet devices, which is considered the world’s first technology in practical use. A demonstration of the simultaneous operation of a dump truck, a bulldozer, and a vibrating roller was shown in the field to the press on September 20. (2017/09/21)
