Tokyo kept its position from last year as top three among 44 cities globally, said Global Power City Index Ranking released on October 12 by Tokyo-based research center Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies.
Tokyo closed the gap on New York, No.2, improving the score in such indicators as accessibility and cultural interaction. The report identified Tokyo’s challenges as in economy, transport and cultural interaction. London remains No.1 since 2012 in the tenth annual report, further extending its lead this year. Given that the UK’s capital city moved up to the top in the year of Olympic Games, Tokyo has opportunities to surpass New York in the ranking by 2020, according to the report. (2017/10/13)
